Do you remember your favorite childhood snacks? Some of mine are still favorites today – Cheez-Its, Goldfish, Oreos, Kraft mac & cheese – but I’ve lost track of so many others!
Every once in a while I’m reminded of one & the memories come flashing back. After making candy salad the first time, I remembered how good Gushers are. When Brad got covid back in 2021, my sister DoorDash-ed us emergency supplies of Gatorade & Dunkaroos. Over the years I’ve encountered several others: FunDip, nearly every Little Debbie treat, those breadstick cracker things that you dipped in fake cheese (& their sister snack, where you spread fake cheese on crackers with that red plastic stick).
I’ve now added another one to the list: Ritz Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers.
Some of you may already know this, but I started a GLP-1 back in February1 and had to adjust the way I eat. It was challenging at the beginning, and I needed to find things I could reliably eat without the risk of nausea. suggested the crackers & they were a lifesaver in the early days.
Now that my appetite & food tolerance has regulated, I still come back to these babies. I have them in my purse, in the glove box of my car, and I even brought multiple packs on a recent trip back to Portland just in case Portland suddenly had no grocery stores.
When I was a kid, I remember preferring the cheese crackers with fake cheese (are we noticing a theme of my youthful obsession with artificial cheese?) over the peanut butter ones, but as an adult I’ve come around to them & maybe you should try them to find out if you like them now too!
While we’re here, let me know what your favorite childhood snack was so I can continue to revisit the days of cafeterias & lunchboxes.

I don’t plan to talk about this publicly because I have complicated feelings about it as it relates to body positivity and the impact it’s having on the resurgence of skinny = healthy / fat = unhealthy but just know that I had several conversations with my doctor over many months & I checked enough boxes that my insurance approved coverage. I’m happy to answer specific questions privately if you have them.
I LIVED off Austin brand peanut butter crackers in high school. Honestly good none of my friends were allergic to peanuts, I probably would’ve caused a problem.
You are literally the one that got me to buy a box of Uncrustables for my kids! So, add that one to your list, too! ;)
As for me, I was a SUCKER for Snoballs, which apparently every other human in the world thinks are disgusting. But there's just something about the pink coconut, the marshmallow outside, the moist chocolate cake and the filling that I LOVED (and still would if I ever let myself eat one!).
p.s. good for you on the GLP-1. I have been on one since 2018 , long before the Ozempic PR, because I had gestational diabetes and was tipping over into pre-diabetes and likely Type 2. It's no one's fucking business if you're on it or how you are losing weight or with what method! 😁You do you! I just like to tell myself that I know I'm a healthier human and will be here longer for my fam and get to enjoy old age if I'm not suffering with extra lbs and high blood sugar. High five for health! 💪
