#57 | the holy grail of dry shampoo
I have tried every option on the market & had given up hope of ever finding one
When I say I’ve tried nearly every dry shampoo on the market, I mean it — drugstore, salon brands, aerosols, spray powders, ones that left a white cast on my brown hair, ones that were actually brown & got all over my hands any time I touched my head, ones with a fragrance so strong I could barely get through the day without washing it out of my hair.
Before I started back in an office, I’d usually be fine with Day Two hair and would throw on a hat or rely on a ponytail for Day Three hair. But once I needed to be professionally presentable more days than not, I reverted back to the every other day washing schedule.
I’ve seen a couple influencers talk about this brand, and specifically the dry shampoo, so while I was restocking on some things from Sephora, I added it to my cart as well.
The reviews were mixed — people complained about the packaging, some hated the scent — so I had no expectations when I opened it up.
The commenters got half of it right: the packaging is a little messy, but the scent doesn’t bother me at all and it definitely doesn’t linger. It’s a fine powder that you apply with a brush so there is an element of mess; if you have a place to store the brush separate from the container, that would cut down on the messiness quite a bit.
Every night, I section my hair and use the brush to apply & blend the dry shampoo powder throughout my roots. I let it sit for 30 seconds or so, run my fingers through it to help evenly distribute it, and then continue my nighttime routine as normal.
This stuff works so well that I could make Day Four hair work if I absolutely needed to (not my preference, but possible!).
It is unreasonably expensive but I’m hoping it lasts a while. They do sell refill containers that cost a bit less, which I’m using to justify it a little bit. But after decades of trying different options, I’m willing to pay the premium for one that genuinely works on my hair.
